Scaling Video Content with Motion Graphics and a New Design Workflow

Challenge

UWorld, a leader in e-learning for high-stakes exams, needed to scale its video production team and create a consistent pipeline of video content for both marketing and course materials. The challenge was to meet the increasing demand for high-quality video content across various programs, including nursing, college prep, medical, and legal education. As the video and graphic design team grew, UWorld also needed a streamlined workflow to ensure consistency and efficiency in producing content.

Process

As the team manager, I led the effort to grow our creative team from 2 to 7 members, establishing a scalable workflow for producing motion design content. I developed video templates and a design system that could be used across UWorld’s product offerings, ensuring brand consistency while allowing the team to work efficiently.

One of the key challenges was balancing the creation of marketing-focused videos with instructional content, each requiring a different tone and approach. I refined the motion design workflow to accommodate both needs, while also overseeing the use of the newly constructed high-end production studios. My favorite part of the process was creating videos that highlighted UWorld’s core product features, such as the high-quality test prep images, which clearly distinguished the company from its competitors.

Impact

The implementation of the new workflow and video templates had a significant impact on UWorld’s marketing and content efforts. The YouTube channel saw a substantial increase in subscribers, growing to over 40K+, and the videos contributed to attracting thousands of new students. The motion graphics and video series helped highlight UWorld’s unique features, such as their detailed test prep images, leading to greater brand recognition and engagement. The video content became a key driver in UWorld’s continued success across its various educational programs.

Learnings

This project taught me the importance of creating scalable processes to manage a growing creative team while maintaining consistency in video production. I also gained valuable insights into balancing marketing objectives with instructional design, ensuring that both could be effectively represented in video content. The success of this project reinforced the impact of well-structured workflows and cohesive design systems in elevating a company’s brand and content quality.
